Penelope Cruz: Oscar 2009 Best Supporting Actress Winner

All the nominees for the best supporting actress category during the 81st annual academy awards are hoping to get the title. However, a contest is a contest and follows one common rule and that is to have only one person to be considered as the winner. In this contest, Penelope Cruz is the lucky nominee who got the title. The awards night was held in Los Angeles California on February 22, 2009. Cruz won the title for playing the role as Maria Elena Woody Allen’s film Vicki Cristina Barcelona.
Penelope Cruz was the first Spanish born actress to luckily win an Oscar for best supporting role, and incidentally, it was also the first award of the night. With the said unexpected incident, do you think it is an indication of a more successful career for Penelope Cruz? Well, we just hope that it is. With her pretty face and great acting talent, for sure she will continue to soar like an eagle.
As Penelope receives the award and did her speech, the sexy actress says thank you to her colleagues in the movie Vicki Cristina Barcelona for trusting the award winning role to her. She further thanks the said person for writing some of the greatest character for women. Penelope also stated in her speech that she grows up in a place called Alcobendas wherein being in the Oscars is not a very realistic dream.
Other nominees for the best supporting actress are Amy Adams for the movie Doubt, Viola Davis for Doubt, Taraji P. Henson for the movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Marisa Tomei for the movie The Wrestler.
Being a Spanish actress, Penelope has starred to numerous American movies already that includes Blow, Vanilla Sky, and Vicki Cristina Barcelona and some non-English films like the Jamon, Jamon, La Nina de ros ojos and Belle époque. Penelope became known of her work for Volver and Todo sobre ni madre together with her acclaimed Spanish director Pedro Almodovar. Prior to the awards she received in 2009, she has won various awards already including the three Goyas, two European Film Awards, the Golden Palm for Best Actress category, and a BAFTA. This year, aside from the Oscar 2009, Penelope Cruz also got an award in Goya, and a BAFTA for her role in Vicki Cristina Barcelona.
The films starred by Penelope Cruz are also an award winning movies just like her movie Belle Epoque and Todo sobre ni madre that have both won an Academy Awards for Foreign Language Film.
Penelope was also a nominee for the best actress category from various award winning bodies including the Golden Globe, the Screen Actors Guild Award, the BAFTA Award, and the Academy Award. In the Academy Award, Penelope Cruz was the first Spanish actress to be nominate in the Best Actress category.
