American Idol jury member Natalie Horler: “I’m stricter than I thought”

With more than 30 million albums sold is Natalie Horler (30) with one of the most successful dance music acts CASCADA in the world. Among her greatest successes include “Everytime We Touch,” Which she landed in 2006 in the top 10 of the United States. With her platinum mega dance hit “Evacuate The Dancefloor” Natalie was in 2009 in the UK charts and number one in the top 10 in 20 additional countries.
Natalie and CASCADA have won the world’s most prestigious music awards. Among other things, the World Music Award, the International Dance Music Awards, the UK Music Award.
The many gold and platinum selling singer has over eight years on tour and their singles already conquered many times in England, France, Germany, Spain, South Africa and Australia’s pole position in the charts.
Natalie Horler, British-born, grew up in Germany and now lives in Bonn. As the daughter of David Horler, to acclaimed jazz musician and arranger who has worked with greats such as Quincy Jones, Stan Getz, Tony Bennett, her music has been placed almost in the cradle.
Natalie, on the seventh American Idol starts in January on RTL. You are new to the jury, how do you like the work?
It’s really fun to listen to talented people in singing, they ascribe positive and help them on their way to a great career.
The best I like that one of three candidates to three know each other better. You get to backstage, how they are doing, you hear them sing something new, Which is already doing well, mitzubekommen other facets of the candidate. This helps in the later assessment.
How would you rate the quality of the singers?
There are a few very strong singers are in the process where I have great hope that they will make it far. I look forward to further development of the candidate.
How would you assess your role in the jury? On what do you look different? Are you strict?
I must admit that I’m stricter than I thought. To me it is incredibly important that the musical talent is true that there is tone deaf. I stand for the voices, because I am a singer. If someone is good technically correct, then block my ears wide open.
What do you want for a superstar? You wish for a woman or a man as a superstar?
I think of being the best should win. It does not matter what gender is the winner.
You yourself have already participated in a talent show. What was that like?
That was a very short experience for me. I was only one day there came not far and I just sang briefly. After that I’ll be kicked out. I’m not so great experience, except that I have ever sung in front of a jury. That was a weird feeling. So I’ve made the experience what it’s like when you are sent home. This is one very close.
Would you still say that it is a good way to participate in a talent show like American Idol to launch a musical career?
It depends on the individual. For some it is certainly the right way. For example, could I play a few instruments, which never part of a band # in which I practice regularly. How else should one be discovered, if you have a good voice, and you want to be a singer? Accordingly, talent shows like American Idol are a real step into the music business. About Talent shows should not think negatively.
You are a singer and come from the music business. What tips can you give the future superstar?
So a superstar American Idol has been more difficult than some ‘one else in this business, I included, because they can run from zero to one hundred. They will sing without much experience on huge stages. You must keep a cool head, must continue to work on themselves, may not be too nervous and try to relax, even if it’s hard.
The music business is tough, what advice can you give to the candidates here on the way? What makes it hard like that?
The hard in the music business is just that people think I do know one personally, but it does not. Accordingly, it is assessed quickly. You can quickly disappear from the scene, if you no longer well received. This is tough. It is still a human being with feelings and emotions.
What is the most crucial for success, what percentage are charisma, voice, appearance, or later, good managers, producers?
It is a combination of everything. There are of course important people you have behind you, as managers, producers or stylists. But I do not think you can make any man off the street into a superstar. The superstar takes this certain something that sets him apart from the crowd, Whether it’s eloquence, charisma or a special song. Otherwise we might as well be any superstars.
You’re still on American Idol during her concerts and has to cancel some test, understand the fans want?
I think so, especially in Germany. We have also an incredible number of international fans who know all the casting format. I explained to them that I was selected as a juror and it’s a big deal for me. Most have, thank God, really understand. So we give great effort to Ensure that all the canceled shows will be rescheduled.
What you have outside American Idol plans yet for the moment?
American Idol plays at the moment of course a very important role in my life. Start the new year comes a new single out then. American Idol will start soon but of course we also look that CASCADA is not neglected.
